Bruce Brown 1937-2017
We lost legend, Bruce Brown creator of The Endless Summer probably the greatest surf film ever made.
If you haven't seen it you need to watch it. Even though the surfers are riding longboards back in the 60's.
The film still holds up and is a classic surf adventure. Endless Summer wasn't Bruce Brown's first movie. His first surf film was Slippery When Wet followed by Surf Crazy and Barefoot Adventures. But what made The Endless Summer such a huge success for Bruce was the fact that people in landlocked areas in middle U.S.A. could relate to his warm humor and the good nature of the film. Brown was born San Francisco but was a local at Seal Beach and Huntington. Bruce was inducted into the Surfers' Hall of Fame in 2009 and was given the first Heritage and Cultural Center Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. There is an Endless Summer book about the making the movie and behind the scenes action. Bruce Brown passed away in Santa Barbara California he was 80 . The endless Summer was the first surf movie I ever watched and it was on network TV.
Memorial Service details are pending.
